Expect a country with a rich history to offer the visitors with wide choices of food as well. That's because the development of food choices coincides with the development of culture. And this is true with Ukraine and the city of Kiev as well. Being a country with rich history, expect that Ukrainian dishes have a multi-century story as well.
One food item made famous by Ukrainians is their famous Ukrainian borsch. When you talk about soups with history in this country, then you will be lead to this soup. In fact this is known as the ancestor of the many local soups that you will encounter in the capital.
When it comes to meat items, Ukraine isn't exclusive on one type of meat. Rather the typical Ukrainian family tables host a diverse meat selection. In terms of preference, pork is the most popular then followed by veal and of course chicken. Chicken dishes here are often prepared as friend or stewed. What people know in the West as tasty Chicken Kiev is a national dish here.
And speaking of tasty and delicious dishes then one menu item worth having is the Crucians baked in Cream. This is actually pike stewed with the horse-radish; and pike perch stewed with mushrooms and crevices. This menu is so good that the first time visitor in Kiev should not leave the city without ever trying this dish.
Porridge is popular here as well and often this is eaten with milk, cream, sunflower oil or with over-fried onions. To sample these food items, then a visit to the city and the country's best restaurant should be part of your trip. Restaurant names like Khutorets and Pervak should be checked.
When it comes to drinks, then the commercial drinks like tea, alcoholic drinks, coffee and juice aren't a problem. But when it comes to drinking water, expect a hard time finding cheap drinking water in the city of Kiev. Price is one factor here since this can come to at least $1 per liter.
