Theaters

The city of Kiev is known for its Slavic influences and as such it's always a good idea to add the city of Kiev in your growing list of must-visit cities in Europe. And when you are in the city, one better way to sample what the Slavic culture is and what the country's culture is by checking the best theaters and museums in the city. For the sophisticated opera and ballet enthusiasts then the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet should be visited. The place was named after TG Shevchenko. This is the oldest musical theater in the country.

Comedies are also shown and performed in the city and these performances can be seen at the Bravo Drama Theater. This Drama Theater in the city is considered as the first private theater in Kiev. The repertoire performed in this theater is based from the works of modern and foreign playwrights.

The Academic Theater of Drama and Comedy is a young and an innovative establishment in the city. This is located at the left bank of the Dnepr River and was founded in 1979. The Marionette Theater is worth checking out as well and this theater is known for their shows that appeals to young audiences.

The Marionette Theater has been telling stories and fairy tales to children since 1989. The theater is a favorite destination for kids and the chamber of the theater seats around 100 people. When it comes to serious performances then the National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet that was named after TG Shevchenko is a must-visit. Operas of the great Russian composers are staged here like the Mermaid of A. Dargomyzhsky, Life for Tsar and Ruslan and the Lyudmila by I. Glinka and also the Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky.
