trans Transportation is not a problem when you're in Kiev. There are several choices to choose from, and at a very affordable price. Kiev's local transportation system can be broken down into four kinds: the metro, the trolley buses and trams, and the taxis.

The metro is the best choice for travelers in Kiev. The publicly owned Metro is well maintained and operated by the Kiev Metro system. It's fast, convenient, and covers a wide range of areas in the city. Aside from being convenient, the Metro's fare is cheap, a token costs 50 kropecks. The Metro is also safe and well regulated.

Private cars and taxis are also available in Kiev. One will only have to dial 0-58 to get a cab or if you want, you can hail one right on the street. Taxi fares however are not regulated which is why they're expensive. If you're planning to take a taxi, be sure to negotiate the price and do a little bit of haggling.

One can also try the trolleys and buses that abound the city. It's a good and cheap way to travel around the city. Trolleys and buses tend to be filled with passengers though and can be uncomfortable. Schedules can be tricky and unpredictable too. Bus tickets can be purchased in bus stops or from the travel operator himself.
Recently, Marshrutkas have begun operating in Kiev's streets. Marshrutkas are privately owned mini buses. They use more convenient routes and can go to smaller residential areas. Marshrutkas, because they're smaller, take fewer passengers and runs faster. The ticket prices are regulated by the local government and are still cheap when compared to other places in Western Europe.

When riding any of these available modes of transportation be sure to bring loose change, check the travel schedules, and take note of the proper fares.
