The Golden Gate Irish Pub is a favourite with affluent locals and expats. On the plus side, the Golden Gate is a good-looking and spacious venue boasting one of the largest selections of draught beer in the Ukraine, several large plasma TV screens for sports events, a billiards room and a number of dishes that do a good job of recreating British pub grub. On the downside the service is indifferent, the atmosphere distinctly un-Irish, and the food overpriced. Paying gourmet prices for bangers and mash kinda defeats the point! Not a bad place by any means, but certainly not the sweaty, friendly, cheap and cramped drinking den an Irish pub should be. |

All manner of cocktails are available at the bar for incredibly reasonable prices and the service is warm and friendly.

Babuin, is an eclectic venue that casts its net far and wide to encapsulate all that is good about the great indoors. Essentially a café (by day) and bar (by night), Babuin is also a bookshop (all the time) and an eatery, and on top of that it hosts a rich events programme. Art exhibitions, book signings, literary discussions, concerts, DJ nights and even kids events all regularly appear on the venue's agenda. With free WiFi and decently-priced refreshments.

Although the motif here is old movies, it still has a fairly traditional pub feel and a wide selection of imported and local beer. Still, most people come for the relatively cheap Ukrainian eats and outdoor patio. The main features of this classic pub are the pleasant wooden interior and bill transactions made via a treasure chest. In spite of a noticeable attempt to copy Western styles in the interior, the music is very Eastern. The dishes and drinks listed on the menu are not necessarily present in the kitchen. Nevertheless, if you plan to arrive after 18:00, it would be better to reserve a table beforehand and prepare for being consumed by cigarette smoke even in the room for non-smokers.
