  Ukraine Consulate/Visas

The country of Ukraine requires its visitors to have a Ukrainian Visa. This is true for most countries except for Poland, Hungary, Romania, Mongolia and former USSR countries. People coming from Switzerland, Japan, Canada, and the United States are also exempted.

For other countries, there are four kinds of visa to choose from: transit, private, tourist, and business. To apply for a transit and tourist visa, you will have to prepare several documents including a letter of support from an agency. This letter serves as a confirmation that you are really going to Ukraine. Once the letter is faxed to your office or home you will then have to submit the letter to the nearest Ukrainian Consulate. You can then apply for Ukrainian Visa once you receive the Visa Support letter.

When applying for a visa, you have to present several documents to your local Ukrainian consulate. These documents include:
  • An invitation/visa support letter from a tourist company.
  • Tourist Voucher - obtained via email from a tourist agency once you make a hotel reservation
  • Passport (valid for a minimum of 6 months after date of arrival in the Ukraine)
  • 3 passport photo of 35 X 45 mm size
  • Completed visa application form
  • Visa Application fee
  • Copy of travel insurance policy (not always required)
  • Copy of your flight tickets (not always required)
In some consulates, the passport is enough proof to get a visa, while there are some that will only require a photocopy of your passport. Be sure to call your local embassy to know which kind is needed or accepted.

Visa processing can take up to 10 working days, depending on the kind of visa you're applying for. In some cases, the visa is released after 2-3 days but this kind of processing is much more expensive. Transit visas are usually given after 1 or 2 days.
